Silence of the Jams: Rockits Outrun Dagger Dolls

The Rockits won a decisive victory against the Dagger Dolls during the first bout of Silence of the Jams Saturday night. With All-Star jammer Harmony Killerbruise returning to join a jammer rotation with Obscene Sheen and Rhea Volt, the Rockits had a dangerous scoring threat in every jam. The win starts the Rockits with a 1-0 record and 151-101 score differential narrowly puts them in first place in the Season Eleven standings.

First Half

Harmony Killerbruise, returning to the Rockits after a year as an All-Star only skater, lined up against Dolls rookie Jacked Pipes in the first jam. Harmony quickly reminded the crowds at the Roy what she could do, pushing through the outside of the Dolls wall while another All-Star skater returning to the Rockits, Scarmen Hellectra, pushed Pipes to the outside and ran her to the back of the pack. Harmony managed to pass three Dolls blockers on her first scoring pass before calling off the jam, starting the Rockits with a 3-0 lead.

That became the template for much of the first half, as the Rockits would then go on a long streak of earning lead jammer, completing one or two scoring passes, and calling off the jam. While Rockits blockers kept the Dolls’ jammers stuck behind red walls, Obscene Sheen, Rhea Volt, Harmony, and Tegan N’ Scare-ya earned the majority of lead jammer statuses in the first half.

Two jams in particular stood out for the Rockits against a backdrop of three- and four-point advances. With 17 minutes left on the clock Harmony took advantage of a power jam opportunity to put up 14 points while Scarmen Hellectra, Surly Bird, Manilla Ice, and Tiny Neurotic Terror swarmed the Dolls wall to make holes. Then with 13 minutes remaining, Tegan N’ Scare-ya took advantage of a chaotic jam with jammers and blockers from both teams making trips to the Surly Sin Bin to score 19 points to the 8 points earned by Kayzilla for the dolls. With 10 minutes remaining in the half, the Rockits led 47-8.

Jacked Pipes and MEDUSA both managed solid 4-0 jams for the Dolls in the first half, but the Rockits continued to push their lead forward, up to 76-34 with 4 minutes left in the half. Rhea Volt muscled her way through another 2-minute penalty-laden jam to 10 more points to Shiver Me Kimbers’ 6, then 4-point jams from Harmony and Sheen made the score 94-44 at the half.

Second Half

The best showing of the game for the Dagger Dolls was in the start of the second half, with Jacked Pipes, Shotgun Millie, and Killsey McMurder claiming consecutive lead jammer statuses, holding the Rockits scoreless. On Millie’s power jam, MEDUSA and Sagittearitup trapped a Rockits blocker to open the door for Millie to score, then Shiver Me Kimbers contained Obscene Sheen long enough out of the box for Millie to score more on the next pass. Killsey scored 5 more on the next jam to narrow the Rockits’ lead to 94-65 with 15 minutes left in the game.

After some strong Rockits jams from Harmony Killerbruise and Rhea Volt, Freddy made another move for the Dolls, claiming lead jammer status, finishing a scoring pass, then executing a well-timed star pass to Kayzilla who skated to four more points, bringin the score to 130-85 Rockits with 11 minutes left in the game.

Unfotunately for the Dolls, the Rockits returned to full force after that, with Volt, Harmony, and Sheen trading quick scoring passes and dominating lead jammer for the rest of the game. Harmony earned lead jammer on the last jam with a spectacular spin move, then tapped her hips definitively to claim victory for the Rockits.
