Derby Date of Birth: Season 5, 2008
Position(s): Blocker, Pivot

Athletic Background:

I began skating as soon as I could move my legs.  When I was very little, my parents flooded the backyard in the winter, strapped tiny ice skates on my feet, and gave me a metal chair to push around to keep my balance.  I was instantly in love.

After a couple early years in dance, I graduated to figure skating.  There are multiple pictures of an angry little D. Rough in frills and red lipstick. Perhaps this is where my hatred for tutus stems from. It was in 6th grade when my family realized hockey might be better suited for their rough young redhead. I didn’t spend quite as much time in the penalty box in those days, but had a bit of a goon reputation.  After 8 years of hockey, it was time to move on.

In college I was introduced to the fabulous world of 100% full contact sports for women, in the form of rugby.  The enjoyment of knocking other ladies to the ground began and I haven’t looked back.  Some of my teammates and I went to a Minnesota RollerGirls bout the first season at the Roy and I remember saying out loud, “I want to do that. I WILL do that some day.”
