Referees

10rg010_mnrg_tc_refs7

Derby Date of Birth: Season 4, 2007
Position(s): Other

Athletic Background:

I have competed in quad speed skating for almost half my life. During the past several years, I have won one gold, as well as several silver and bronze medals, at the US National Roller Speed Skating Championships.  I also compete in bicycle racing.  My husband and I race our tandem in time trials, and I have also competed in track (velodrome) racing.

Bio:

Descended from Italian mobsters, Batterin’ Gram spent her childhood brawling on the mean streets of Detroit. She first set foot inside a roller rink in 1965 and fell in love - with quad skating. She gave up street fighting for skating, but never quite outgrew her pugilistic ways. In her salad days, Batterin’ Gram checked out the quads on the young lads on the circuit while she kicked her opponents’ butts. Over the years she’s managed to pile up a fine mess of hardware, including 2009 National Champion in the Senior 2-Woman Relay along with her partner in crime, Willa Hoeflinch.

Being a grandma of 8 (soon to be a Great-Grandma) hasn’t slowed this old roller down. Gram still tears it up in quad racing, continuing to pile up medals at the US Nationals. As a referee, she maintains derby law and order at Grandma’s House - aka the penalty box. But old habits die hard. Gram still checks out quads on the boys, especially when a wolf whistle comes her way. Gram’s still fighting - for truth, justice, Roller Derby, and fabulous quads!
