Announcement: MNRG June Update #1 - Season Eight rosters and tryouts this Sunday

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

The Minnesota RollerGirls never seem to stop rolling. It’s been a month since the Wheelies, and already we have a fair bit to tell you.

The Roster:

Here’s how it works. Each hometeam - the Atomic Bombshells, the Dagger Dolls, the Garda Belts, and the Rockits - may post a roster of up to twenty players at the start of a season. If they do not fill all twenty spots, the team will take on new players in the August draft.

Occasionally, one of those spots will be taken by a player returning from an injury. Players will also sometimes ‘step back’ into Class C (part of the MNRG but not a member of a team) or leave altogether. In other words, that roster isn’t set in stone as the summer progresses; life happens to the players all too often.

The initial rosters for season eight are as follows:

Atomic Bombshells:
1. BOOMbay Safire
2. Bully Jean
3. Cleosplatra
4. Flora Flipabitch
5. Freeze Baby
6. Hurtrude Stein
7. Jocelyn D’ Jewels
8. L’exi-cuter
9. Lizzy the Axe (co-captain)
10. Madame de Stompadour
11. Mitzi Massacre
12. Skullateral Damage
13. Smoka Hontas
14. Tara Skatesov
15. Venus Thightrap
16. Diamond Rough (co-captain)

Dagger Dolls:
1. Angelfire
2. Barbie Brawl
3. Hanna Belle Lector
4. Juke Boxx
5. Killaman Jaro
6. Lydia Punch
7. Naughty Kitty
8. Norah Torious
9. Norwegian Mafia
10. Ova Achieva (co-captain)
11. Olga Ogilthorpe
12. Psycho Novia
13. Rollercat
14. Shiver Me Kimbers (co-captain)
15. Tiki Torture
16. Wonderbroad

Garda Belts:
1. Anita Spankston (co-captain)
2. Ann E Briated
3. Beth Anne Destruction
4. Betty LaRude
5. Cassie Rolle
6. Citizen Pain
7. Dropkick Donna
8. Glam Slam
9. Lola Blackenblue
10. MEDUSA
11. Moto Fluzzi
12. Rita Rawkus (co-captain)
13. Rumblebee
14. Scootaloo
15. ShivaShankn
16. Stacy Wreckt
17. Suzie Smashbox
18. Wolfe Bite

Rockits:
1. Abbie Mischief
2. Commander Nix
3. Coochie Coup
4. Cookies ‘n Scream
5. Frau Scientits (co-captain)
6. Harmony Killerbruise
7. Honeydew Felon (co-captain)
8. IcePack
9. KillaHertz
10. Kit Shinkicker
11. Konceal’n Kari
12. MeshugEnough
13. Pain Gretzky
14. Patently Offensive
15. Salvador Brawlie
16. Scarmen Hellectra
17. Soylent Mean
18. Trixie Whipsum
19. Vuedoo Prodigy
20. Wanda Wreckonwith

Three points.

  1. The Rockits are full up. Unless someone in red steps away over the summer, the four-time champions are bringing back their entire roster. That includes Abbie Mischief, Soylent Mean, and Wanda Wreckonwith, each of whom were out for almost the entire seventh season on injury leave.
  2. Only one player has changed teams this year. Look closely at the Garda roster, and you’ll notice that fifth-year veteran Scootaloo is trading in her pinks for green and plaid. That brings Scootaloo’s utility jamming skills and rear-guard work to team Garda…while opening a precious space up on the Dagger Doll roster.
  3. It’s been a long time since the Minnesota RollerGirls hometeam rosters have been so full this early in the season. The league took in sixteen new players for our seventh season. This year, the MNRG might draft ten - and the number might be smaller. That means we will keep a lot of talent from last year - and the games will be that much better.

Tryouts:

The moment when it all goes down for aspiring Minnesota RollerGirls happens this Sunday at 2pm. Do you think you have what it takes to skate with Minnesota’s finest? You have only to get in touch with us, find a pair of skates and the appropriate protective gear, and show up at the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium for four hours of hell. The competition this year will be intense, but it’s in your hands. Bring what you’ve got and leave it all on the track. For more information, check this out.

Stay tuned for news from our All-Stars, now recovered from an incredible weekend of competitive derby. The MNRG All-Stars went 2-for-4; we’ll have the details of the Midwest Brewhaha as part of our next June update.
