Tournament Recap: The All-Stars return - Results from the 2011 WFTDA Championship!

The MNRG All-Stars have returned from the Mile-High City after one win and one loss at the 2011 WFTDA Championships. That win places Minnesota amidst the top eight flat-track teams in the nation.
Minnesota’s first trip through the Championships in 2010 ended early in defeat against Baltimore’s Charm City. This year, Minnesota went deeper into the hunt for the Hydra Trophy. Again placed in the bracket against Charm, we outplayed Baltimore and defeated them 160-121 - answering that loss a year ago.
On day two, the MNRG played their first bout ever against the Texecutioners of Austin, TX. Although Minnesota entered into halftime with a slim lead (67-56), Texas fought their way and took the win, 141-108. Texas went on to take third in the tournament.
We will have much more coverage about the MNRG All-Stars’ trip through the WFTDA tournaments later this month, but - for now - congratulations to the All-Stars for their incredible performance this year. We will see you this weekend as our hometown Dagger Dolls take on the Garda Belts for top-of-the-league honors, while the Rockits and the Atomic Bombshells play for their first victory of the season.

New school defeats old in league-wide battle, 116-80

The Minnesota RollerGirls took to the track in a familiar bout on March 31st as the league’s veterans (playing as the “Mayo Clinicians”) attempted to go 2-0 against those newest to roller derby (the “State Fair Foodies”). After falling behind in the first half, the Foodies outscored the veterans 85 to 12 in the second to win the match 116-80.
