The MNRG are excited to announce that two of our own – Juke Boxx and MEDUSA – have been chosen from an extraordinary field of skaters to represent the United States at the Roller Derby World Cup in Toronto this December.
Here’s how it breaks down. Blood and Thunder - one of roller derby’s few print magazines* - has been holding roller derby camps across the world for years. The players behind B & T decided to put together an event where the best from each nation could gather and compete over a single weekend. Several players from the MNRG put in to represent their home nations; MEDUSA and Juke Boxx qualified to be part of the USA’s team of 28 against a field of players from across the WFTDA.
Now, this is not the last step for ‘Dusa and Juke. The final cut to the team of 20 happens in September. However, both players have already qualified to play in a Team USA All-Stars exhibition bout at the tournament’s start. This is a singular opportunity for these two to play with against the world’s best, and we hope that both will move on in September into the final team of 20. Congratulations, ‘Dusa and Juke!

The Minnesota RollerGirls took to the track in a familiar bout on March 31st as the league’s veterans (playing as the “Mayo Clinicians”) attempted to go 2-0 against those newest to roller derby (the “State Fair Foodies”). After falling behind in the first half, the Foodies outscored the veterans 85 to 12 in the second to win the match 116-80.
