Rockits Blast Off Against Dagger Dolls 199-63

In the second bout of Winter Carnage, the Rockits achieved a decisive victory against the Dagger Dolls 199-63. The Rockits’ margin of victory put themselves in second seed in the playoff for the Golden Skate starting in March. This is Fire Wally reporting from the Fabulous Roy Wilkins Auditorium

The Rockits started the game with veteran jammer Commander Nix against the Dagger Dolls’ Shiver Me Kimbers. Nix gained lead jammer status quickly, but got hit to the outside by Naughty Kitty and had to call off the jam after scoring 3.

On the next jam, Rockits blocker Buzz TightRear grabbed Dreidel Robber (her own jammer) and shoved her into Dolls jammer Destiny’s Problem Child, knocking her out of bounds. Destiny, perhaps caught off guard by this highly unconventional move, re-entered the track in front of Dre, leading to a track cut penalty and a Rockits power jam. However, pink blockers Hanna Belle Lector, BiPolarBear, and Naughty Kitty held Dre to 4 points, making the score 0-7 Rockits with 16 minutes remaining in the half.

Shiver Me Kimbers blasted through the inside line on the next jam to claim lead jammer for the Dolls, then grabbed 4 quick points before calling off the jam. Commander Nix struck back with two points on the following jam, making the score 9-4 Rockits with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Dolls rookie Destiny’s Problem Child brought a new display of power on the next jam, dropping a shoulder to muscle through the Rockits wall for lead jammer. Kung POW Bitchin’, Shotgun Millie, and Hanna held the Rockits jammer long enough for Destiny to score 4 and bring the Dolls within 1 point, 8-9 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half.

Rhea Volt took advantage of a power jam opportunity on the next jam to open up the score for the Rockits. As the Dolls lost blockers to penalties, Volt made like a wrecking ball into Pow, knocking her over on her way to a 15 point jam. The Dolls chipped away on the next two jams, making the score 24-13 Rockits with 9 minutes remaining in the half.

A penalty call on Destiny at the end of jam 8 set up another Rockits power jam opportunity, this time for Commander Nix. Rockits blocker Salvador Brawlie cleared the outside of the Dolls’ wall for Nix’s first scoring pass. Nix juked her way to two more five-point passes plus one more point, making the score 40-13 with 7 minutes remaining in the period.

The Rockits lead continued to grow approaching halftime, as another Nix power jam and clean play by the Rockits blockers led to a 71-30 lead at the half.

Second Half

The Rockits came out even stronger in the second half, as Dagger Dolls penalty trouble gave Rhea Volt and Commander Nix more power jam opportunities to run up the score. The Rockits outscored the Dolls 49-9 in the first five jams, making the score 110-39 with 13 minutes left in the game.

Power jams by Rhea Volt, Frau Scientits, and Dreidel Robber followed, running up the Rockits lead to 147-47 with 7 minutes left in the game, a rare 100-point lead in MNRG home season play. The game seemed more-or-less decided at that point, but that didn’t stop some superlative individual play on both sides of the game. Dolls blocker Kung POW Bitchin’ gave a few Rockits bone-shattering hits, earning herself the ScutiePie Hot Pants Hot Shot award. On the Rockits side, rookie Tegan N. Scare-ya earned 20 points in her first-ever jam for the Rockits, portentous of what’s sure to be a productive MNRG career.

On the last jam, Lydia Punch earned lead jammer for the Dolls, breaking a 10-jam streak where the Rockits did not give up lead jammer status and ruined their chance at a perfect half, earning 13 points in the process to make the final score 199-63 in favor of the Rockits.
