More dirt about yourself: Born a small town Minnesota girl, Mary spent her early years tearing around by foot and bike trying to fulfill her need for speed. That’s when she discovered the magic of roller skating and decided there was nothing better than 8 wheels on her feet. The small town rink was enough to contain her for a while, but soon she out grew the mirror-balls, carpeted walls and couple skates. There MUST be so much more—she longed for something different than small town life. Soon she rolled her way to the booming metropolis to discover that the bright lights and big city ran white hot in her veins!

Working hard to get her fill, Mary had many odd jobs before landing one as a surly receptionist. Answering phones, typing correspondence and snapping her gum angrily at guests was not enough to tame the restless feeling inside. Then while taking a shorthand memo, she snapped her pencil in half and kicked a whole in the big man’s desk. Running out of the office, she wished she could put on her roller skates and skate away from it all, go anywhere but there! One night, after a particularly hard day on the switchboards, she was winding her way home and heard the roaring crowd of roller derby fans. She found girls wearing skirts, skates and sneers, girls throwing hip checks, punches and jeers. Lacing up her well worn skates she knew she had found her place! From that day on Mary took the name Roar in honor of the fierce sound of her adoring fans. Once just a small town girl, livin’ in her lonely world, Mary Tyler Roar now lives the fast life on the flat track! She’s a lover and a fighter and loves a good fight. This short, spicy brunette turns the derby world upside down with her smile: it’s the first thing you see before she takes you out and the last thing you see as she speeds past you.
