Atomic Bombshells Return Fire Against Rockits 182-96

By: Fire Wally

The Atomic Bombshells achieved vengeance on the Rockits on Saturday, playing to a 182-96 victory. Jammers Crowella De Vil and Fannie Tanner led the Bombshells in scoring while orange blockers kept Rockit jammers contained for the full 40 minutes. With the victory, the Bombshells advance to fight for the Golden Skate in April.

First Half

The Atomic Bombshells’ dominance started right from the beginning, with 38 unanswered points in the first four jams of the game. In the first jam, Bombshells jammer Fannie Tanner shouldered her way through the Rockits wall for lead jammer then snuck around the outside of the pack for 4 quick points. Crowella De Vil scored 4 on the next jam with similar efficiency.

On the following jam, the Bombshells four-wall of Smoka Hontas, Hurtrude Stein, Skullateral Damage, and Chris Tea Pain locked down Rockits jammer Dreidel Robber with constant recycling to the front and aggressive hits to the infield. Skully and Trudy took turns hitting Dreidel out of bounds then racing backwards to draw Dreidel further back. Meanwhile, Fannie Tanner juked and shoved her way to 25 points before the jam expired for time.

The Rockits wall of MadRad, Buzz TightRear, Konceal’N Kari and MeshugEnough had a solid defensive stand on the next jam, holding Freeze Baby to just 5 points on a power jam while Dreidel Robber snuck through the Bombshells wall and forced Freeze to call off the jam.

Commander Nix put the Rockits on the board in the next jam, scoring 10 to Roley Ann Lena’s 3 while Buzz and Coochie Coup kept the pack moving fast to take advantage of Nix’s open-track speed. That made the score 41-10 for the Bombshells with 11 minutes left in the first half.

Two more power jam opportunities followed for the Bombshells, with Crowella De Vil scoring 25 and Fannie Tanner following up with 13, expanding the Bombshells lead to 79-25 with 7 minutes left in the half. Nix would answer back with 15 points for the Rockits, but then the Bombshells dominated the rest of the half, with Roley, Fannie, Crow, and Trudy notching the Bombshells’ lead to 104-44 at halftime.

Second Half

The same pattern continued in the second half, with the Bombshells claiming lead jammer 8 times to the Rockits’ 4 and outscoring them 78-52. The Bombshells used their cushion on the scoreboard to give playtime to their entire roster, featuring rookie blockers Terror Swift, Jess LaRotonda, Mugsy Marauder, and Chris Tea Pain.

The Rockits were not without good news themselves, with some solid jamming performances from MeshugEnough and rookie Tegan N’ Scare-ya and blockers that effectively controlled the speed of the pack. They’ll want to build on that for their upcoming contest against the Dagger Dolls for third place.

With their 182-96 victory, the Bombshells advance to take on the Garda Belts in the championship bout in what’s sure to be a stunning conclusion to this years Minnesota RollerGirls home season.
